Living grief from hope

I know it is not easy to live what the title of this article indicates. Moreover, it really is a gift of the Grace of the Lord to be able to do it. And bless God be because it is so. If we only had to count on our forces, I don’t know where we would end up, as with everything we live in our Christian life.

But the Lord, our Lord, our God, is a Merciful God. And this is important to remind us again and again throughout our lives. Every moment of it, every second. And especially in the most difficult moments, such as the moment of the loss of a loved one. Or a loss of any kind: love, work, illness, a friendship … in all of them we must live the grieving process.

So let’s start by relocating our heart to the One who loves us madly, who is always with us, who accompanies us at all times, happy or painful. Let us remember (remember again: go back through the heart) the certainty that our God is Merciful God. That He is Love, goodness, tenderness, softness, joy, company, support, advice … and faithful, deeply faithful. And that in this faithfulness of God we can rest, for He has promised us that the test will never surpass the Grace he gives us to live it (cf. 2 Corinthians 12, 9) and that he is a God of the living, not the dead (cf. Mark 12, 27). And notice what beauty has promised us: «All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will not cast out; because I have come down from heaven, not to do my will, but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me; Let him not lose anything he has given me, but resurrect him on the last day. For this is the will of my Father: that whoever sees the Son and believes in him, has eternal life and that I raise him on the last day. ”(John 6, 37-40)

This is the will of the Father, manifested and accomplished through the Son, through the Grace of the Holy Spirit: the resurrection and eternal life. Resurrection and eternal life! Death does not have the last word. And if we put our heart on these promises, it is when we can really rest. Even in the midst of pain, even in the midst of suffering, where He always accompanies us and gives us His Grace to live it, we can have hope, as a firm anchor to which to grab in the storm we are living. And with humility and simplicity, knowing us beloved and beloved children of the Father, to open that painful heart to him in prayer: “Lord, my Lord and my God, loving and compassionate Father, from whose hands I have come out, in whose lap I keep myself, in whose embrace I can spend all eternity. To You I give my life and my wounded heart. I give you this moment that I am living. I give you what hurts, placing it with confidence in your loving hands. I know that you are a God of life, of eternal life, and not of death. I know that your will always springs from your Heart full of Love and tenderness for me and my loved ones. That is why I give you this moment, with confidence and hope, to this person … so that you fill it with your love, so that you recreate what is broken, so that you restore what is hurt, so that you fill it again with your life. I wait on You, I trust You, I rest on You ”.

“We know that in all things God intervenes for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28). Jesus I trust in you.
