Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4,16-30

Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read
and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.”
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them, “Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.
He said to them, “Surely you will quote me this proverb, ‘Physician, cure yourself,’ and say, ‘Do here in your native place the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.'”
And he said, “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.”
When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury.
They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong.
But he passed through the midst of them and went away.

No Prophet is ever Accepted in his own Land.

1. The Spirit is upon me: Your inner spiritual life is so important! It’s absolutely necessary that you seek the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life; don’t make decisions without first resorting to Him. The Holy Spirit is the gentle breeze that covers your soul. He’s the comfort in your moments of anguish. Don’t let go of the Holy Spirit, don’t leave him aside. Take the opportunity today to ask for one of the seven gifts. Ask for fortitude so that you can move forward, ask for the light of wisdom in moments which seem hard or dark, or in moments when you don’t know how to decide certain things or manage certain situations.

2. There is a second point and it’s ‘God invites you to announce’. You are an announcer, don’t stop evangelizing. Today, we can evangelize in different ways: either with a phrase or quote on Facebook, or an image on Instagram that might help and encourage others. There are so many things which can be done to proclaim the gospel. Use your creativity because that helps a lot.  Don’t forget face to face interaction; being able to look at those around you and asking them, “What’s wrong?” or “Come, what can I help you with?”– those are also ways of evangelizing. Helping an elderly person who has difficulty to cross the road, that’s a way of evangelizing as well. The proclamation of the gospel is focused on the person and it aims at bringing that person into contact with God. You are a vital part of evangelizing the Word.

3. And the third issue is ‘Who is this?’ Yes, your nearest and dearest might find it difficult to understand your evangelizing language. You may run into people who might hurt you emotionally for being an announcer. But don’t give up, God is with you. Many will question you and even discredit you – don’t be afraid, because God makes all things new and with you, He can do marvelous things! So, come on because Heaven is our goal! With you, evangelization becomes sweeter.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
