Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 13,1-9.
Some people told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.
He said to them in reply, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?
By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!
Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them –do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?
By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!”
And he told them this parable: “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none,
he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. (So) cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’
He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it;
it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.'”
God is patient.
1) Pilate: Jesus wants to emphasize that what happens in your life is the product of what you do or don’t do. It is not as simple as saying: “this is happening as God’s punishment”, life is much broader than a mere reward-punishment equation. In life we will encounter difficult situations, crosses we must assume to redeem ourselves. In this path of life you must understand that all you encounter, is there for a reason, to redeem you.
2) Conversion: Just as everything changes, you also have to change, and you will change, because life is dynamic. It is not static. That is why it is essential that you work on yourself and your intentions. Where do you want to go with your life? Always aim high, God is with you.
3) God awaits you: The Lord has a lot of patience with you, He is the first to believe in you and encourages you to bear fruit. Death comes sooner or later to your life, but I assure you that no one leaves this world without having given at least a small fruit to life. God invites you to be a leafy tree. May death not find you withered and dry. Be fruitful and give life.
