John 2,13-22

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
John 2, 13-22

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 2,13-22.

Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money-changers seated there.
He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables,
and to those who sold doves he said, “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.”
His disciples recalled the words of scripture, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
At this the Jews answered and said to him, “What sign can you show us for doing this?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”
The Jews said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?”
But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.

1) Salesmen: They were those who went to the temple to trade and not to pray. They didn’t go to meet God but to profit from the things of God. Please do not try to negotiate with God. Don’t fall for “If you do me a favor, God, I will go to Mass.” Do not make deals with God! When you try to “use God” for personal gain and do not succeed, do not get mad at God ! Please do not put God on Wall Street. Do not use Him like a financial institution to earn interest.

2) Respect the sacred: I invite you to honor and care for our sacred places, respect them more than anything. I’m not saying you should cover your head to go to Mass or wear a suit and tie, but dress with the dignity the church deserves. I believe that, in recent times, we have disregarded the way we present ourselves in our sacred places. Be careful to focus and participate in mass. Avoid the use of the cell phone in the middle of the Mass and dress in a dignified manner.

3) Rebuild: God invites us to rebuild what has been lost so that the Church grows and becomes a greater influence in our world today.

You and I are the Church and the Church needs our contributions; not only financial help, but also our time and participation. What is your contribution to your Catholic Church?

God bless you! Remember: Heaven is our goal

Your contribution help us to continue with our mission
God Bless You!
