Luke 16, 1-8

Luke 16, 1-8

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 16,1-8

Jesus said to his disciples, “A rich man had a steward who was reported to him for squandering his property.
He summoned him and said, ‘What is this I hear about you? Prepare a full account of your stewardship, because you can no longer be my steward.’
The steward said to himself, ‘What shall I do, now that my master is taking the position of steward away from me? I am not strong enough to dig and I am ashamed to beg.
I know what I shall do so that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may welcome me into their homes.’
He called in his master’s debtors one by one. To the first he said, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
He replied, ‘One hundred measures of olive oil.’ He said to him, ‘Here is your promissory note. Sit down and quickly write one for fifty.’
Then to another he said, ‘And you, how much do you owe?’ He replied, ‘One hundred kors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Here is your promissory note; write one for eighty.’
And the master commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently. “For the children of this world are more prudent in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light.”

Today we see God’s mercy

1) Misuse : Misuse is when you waste life. It’s alright to believe you’re the owner of your life, but I’m sorry to tell you … you’ll have to be accountable for it! And, unfortunately, some of us are not using our life as we should. You are allowed certain weaknesses, and God grants you something that is essential: just the right thing at the right moment. Learn how to administer your life because life has a way of holding you “accountable” and that way is called “time.” Sooner or later time will hold you accountable for your life.

2) Call the debtors: We must be able to negotiate, but always for a good cause. We must learn to forgive and learn to ask for forgiveness. It is acquiring forgiveness as the resource that will help you when you don’t have everything you need. It is to seek the help of friendship and fraternity in order to face life’s hard moments. Don’t go through difficult moments of life on your own. Do not isolate yourself because that way you lose out and you become a useless person. Look for support from your family, good friends, groups. Look for those who affect you positively. And you, who belong to a group in the Church, please, I ask you do not exclude your brother or sister that is having a rough time. On the contrary, welcome and protect them. It is awful to be alone during difficult moments in life. If we call ourselves “believers” we cannot ignore someone who is suffering.

3) Astute: You and I are invited to spread the gospel with maximum strength! We must have the fortitude to announce the Gospel and be clever enough to find the way to get the message to others. Being missionaries means being astute. To show life’s truth through the “Good News.”
