My Lord, my God. I firmly believe that you are here; that you see me: that you hear me I adore you with profound reverence. I ask your pardon for my sins and the grace to make this time of Prayer. My Immaculate mother, St. Joseph, my father and Lord, my guardian angel, intercede for me.
A romantic movie
During the decade of the 90s there was a movie romantic comedy that had a very catchy song by Ronan Keating. I don’t know if you remember that but the refrain of the song says “you say best when you say nothing at all”. It’s about the dialogue that boyfriend and girlfriend have and the boy says you actually talk to me a lot when you say nothing at all. And I was thinking that for our meditation today Jesus for my time of prayer with you, I want to meditate on someone that has no words in the whole gospel. But is a big protagonist, his name is St. Joseph. I invoke him every time I pray and today reading the gospel of the mass for this feast day, I can see again how his silence is so eloquent. Saint Matthew says that Mary was betrothed to Joseph and before they lived together, she found with a child through the Holy Spirit and Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man and willing to expose her to shame decided to divorce her quietly according to the Jewish customs.
Three possibilities
Joseph had three possibilities. The first was to denounce the pregnancy of her wife and she would have probably been stoned to death. The second one was to divorce her in public and then she would be always labeled as suspicious for something wrong that happened. And the third possibility was to divorce her quietly and then a husband what we same as someone coward and someone like a loser. We would say in the US that abandoned his wife while she was pregnant. And this is exactly what Joseph was intending to do which is very powerful because he understood from the very beginning that something special was around Mary. And instead of at denouncing her; instead of kind of putting her to shame in public; he took all the blame upon himself. This is so heroic, Jesus. I want to learn about this silence of Joseph. I want to learn how to many times keep things for myself bring it to my prayer, ponder those things with you and then make decisions. I live in a world that has many times this hectic activity around me and it is difficult to stop I gotta be honest with you Jesus but if I learn from Saint Joseph to stop, to think, to meditate, to make decisions in front of you; then my decisions will be balanced and I will have peace in my heart. Pope Benedict, in one of his books, asked to enter into silence means to discover a new inner order, a new galaxy, a new possibility of order. And then he continues in this quote say something funny. He says the dinosaurs are said to have become extent because their development went in the wrong direction. Plenty of armor, plate and little brain, plenty of muscles and little sends, am I not also about to develop in a wrong direction? Jesus, plenty of technology but little soul, kind of a thick. armor plate of material expertise but an emptied heart? I want to enter into this inner silence, maybe right now. How many times do I stop during the day, just to make decisions? How do I use my silence? Hhow do I use my time? The gospel continues. An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and said Joseph: “Sson of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home, but it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her”.Joseph a walk and he did as the Angel of the Lord, commanded him to them and is a pity that the gospel which I have details about that encounter between Joseph and Mary. Afterwards, after that dream, but I can imagine both of them crying and laughing at the same time. And maybe I don’t know but maybe Mary said something like: You usay it best when you say nothing at all”. That is so beautiful, when someone Jesus when someone like me discovers the meaning of his life or her life when we accept the role that we have been given in society, in the world, in history or vocation. Today’s a day to think big about my vocation and maybe I need silence. I need the time of prayer daily to put myself in front of you and then you will tell me things and you will guide me. And sometimes, I will go through darkness. Ssometimes you will test my faith and it is good. I will mature and maybe I can ask in Joseph to give me also light to give me guidance to me; faith, because sometimes Jesus I go to sleep and I I like this interior silence and maybe I go to sleep and I’m still nervous about something and I want to rest with you in you like sin Joseph. A nd then my life will have a complete new meaning if I go back to you inside me. If I talk to you in the silence of my prayer.
Joseph, the happy man
All Placid Joseph, happy man, whose privilege it was not only to see and to hear that Gd who many kings had long to see and they did not see him and long to hear and did not hear him. But also to carry him in your arms and to kiss him to clothe him and to watch over him. This is a prayer that you are recommended to pray before saying Mass or attending Mass and it tells you how sinned Joseph was so happy all his life. Because he accepted his vocation He embraced his vocation what about you do. You like your vocation. Do you like the place where you are? Do you like the people that you have around are you, engaged with the world? Do you put meaning into your actions? Do you give like a note I mentioned to life because you have Jesus inside ask St. Joseph had Jesus in his hands. If you’re Catholic If you’re Christian. If we are Christians and Catholics to be happy is not an optional. Iit is a reality. And you can make a difference like Saint Joseph,even say nothing. Even in a quiet way. I remember I read this in the news what happened in a hospital in the city where I live. It is a huge Hospital actually and it has a whole section for kids with cancer. Aand in the hospital there was a guy in charge of cleaning the windows from the outside. Iin one of those kind of elevators that they put in the outside of the buildings and then he saw everyday that section with the poor kids with cancer. And he got an idea h. He decided to buy a custom of spider-man and then he would go up and down the building in the outside. That little act of generosity changed everything. He had a huge impact every morning. Dozens of kids would be excited looking through the window to meet spider-man and spider-man would greet them one by one encouraging them to keep going. It takes one person, just one person, to make a difference. St. Joseph understood it well his quiet life, his music, his silence, speaks us louder than many words and poems. And seeing his contribution to the work of redemption, we are encouraged to embrace our vocation wherever we are. Pope Francis was saying recently. I have a dogmatic certainty. God is in every person’s life. God is in, every one’s life even if the life of a person has been a disaster, even if it is destroyed by vices drugs or anything else .God is in this person’s life. You can, you must try to seek God in every human life, although the life of a person is a land full of thorns and weeds. There is always a space in which the good seed can grow. You have to trust God and this is exactly what st. Joseph did.
