Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 8,1-11

Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them.
Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle.
They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery.
Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”
They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.
But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Again he bent down and wrote on the ground.
And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him.
Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
She replied, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, (and) from now on do not sin any more.”

Forgiveness gives dignity

1) They brought her to him. This is the attitude that you and I sometimes have towards others: Controlling their lives; Pointing at them with our finger; Deciding who comes in and who does not. They brought along this woman who had been caught in her sin. Perhaps you may catch many in their sin, but maybe you have not been caught in yours yet…. Remember, We are all sinners, and everyone in this world has weaknesses. So think carefully before pointing your finger at others.

2) He wrote on the floor. According to St Augustine, Jesus was writing on the ground the sins of those who judged the woman… so they started to leave one by one. Today Jesus wants to remind you that before judging your brothers and sisters, you should remember that He knows your miseries and sins… yet he continues to forgive you. Forgiveness is the key to His power. He is a God who forgives and loves. Look at your own mistakes before you judge your brother or sister.

3) Neither do I. Jesus did not condemn her. That was enough for this woman to follow Him for the rest of her life. Feeling touched and forgiven by God can change a person for their whole life. I hope this Lent is not in vain… and that you are able to realise how much God forgives you, how much God has touched your life and that you are part of what God has planned for others.

You are a sign of forgiveness for others. A Christian is called to forgive and not to judge or condemn others.

God bless you and keep you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
And come on! Remember Heaven is our goal!
