Matthew 8,5-17

Matthew 8,5-17

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 8,5-17

When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him,
saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.”
He said to him, “I will come and cure him.”
The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.
For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.
I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven.”
but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”
And Jesus said to the centurion, “You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you.” And at that very hour (his) servant was healed.
Jesus entered the house of Peter, and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and waited on him.
When it was evening, they brought him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a word and cured all the sick,
to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: “He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

Jesus entered Capernaum and the centurion begged him

1 He begged Him. The centurion’s attitude, appealing to Jesus on his servant’s behalf, is the attitude that you and I must have for those around us. Speak to God about those who need Him; ask God on behalf of others. Your dialogue with God should not always be about you… tell God about the people who are close to you; not as gossip, but to pray for their lives. Today, there are people who need you and God wants you to talk to Him about them. This is how we can all grow in faith and be happy.

2 As you have believed. There are moments when we feel that we have lost our faith; that is not complete or not possible. This feeling of impossiblity can make us pessimistic. It can bring us down, and this can happen to us several times a day! Remember, you must do what’s possible and God will take care of the impossible. Think about this phrase attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi: “Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” May your faith never fail. Trust and have faith; with these two elements you will see wonders!

3 Cures ailments. Jesus goes out to meet all who are in need. Today we have diseases that do not allow us to walk freely, but there is also the “everyday fever” … those things that drive us crazy and do not let us find inner peace. We need to ask God to give us peace of mind and the ability to move forward in life with faith, knowing that He will heal us. Only Jesus can heal us.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
And remember: Heaven is our goal!
