John 20,1-2.11-18

John 20 1-2

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 20,1-2.11-18

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.”
But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.”
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” She thought it was the gardener and said to him, “Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him.”
Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni,” which means Teacher.
Jesus said to her, “Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'”
Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and what he told her.

Be a witness

1) Darkness. In Mary Magdalena we see a woman without hope. Only her love keeps her walking along her path and caring. You and I might be that Mary Magdalena; a person who keeps going only because of way of life, or a daily routine … but without hope,
as if you have been deprived of your reason for living. Here, in Mary Magdalena we see a person who feels depressed because others have snatched things or opportunities from her life. In Mary, you can see those people who do not feel fulfilled because others have destroyed or robbed them of their life’s goal, their sense of living. How many “Mary Magdalenas” there are today! People who have had their dreams and hopes shattered and who continue to walk through life without joy or the desire to live fully.

2) Mary! The recognition of the Lord’s voice says a lot and shows us everything. Because when someone loves another , they look at the smallest details, the tiniest gestures, even how someone speaks your name with love and tenderness. Today, pay attention to the tiny details in your life: how you greet your wife or husband; if you are a priest, the detail of preparing your mass with care; if you are a nun, the detail of being kind to your sisters in the community. Pay attention to details in relationships with those you love, and see what gentle gesture you can give them today.

3) Announce. After this experience you must go out and announce. Share the good news. This is the path of a disciple. We don’t need special studies to be a disciple of Christ, nor do we need to attend a course. Being a disciple of Jesus comes through a living experience and an intimate encounter with the Risen Christ. It implies announcing a life experience, not an ad from a theology manual.
God bless you, and be with you especially today – the feast of Mary Magdalena. May He continue to strengthen your heart.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
And remember: Heaven is our goal!
