Matthew 13,54-58

Matthew 13 54-58

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 13,54-58

Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, “Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds?
Is he not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?”
And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house.”
And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.

Lack of faith prevents us from seeing miracles

1) Who is this? People around you always seek to categorize you; it’s like you’re already labeled from the beginning. The same thing happened to Jesus, they labeled him. It seems that where you come from, where you live, and your social status matters a lot… even more than whether or not you live in the Truth. This leads us to become a sick society, in which a rich person’s lie is accepted over the truth of a homeless person. Don’t give up, live and announce the truth. I understand you can get discouraged when you feel mistreated and see unfair situations around you… but – how much you have in your wallet or where you come from should not condition the mission you have been given by Jesus. You have come into this world for that purpose. Let me tell you a secret: people will always have an opinion about you, or something to say… therefore continue working for Christ. Don’t let their comments affect you. Keep on sowing and we will enjoy the harvest together.

2) Stumbling block. If you live in the truth, you will obviously be a stumbling block for many. If you outshine others at what you do, many will seek to set you aside. Unfortunately, there is envy in our society and also within the church, like in any institution. But never stop looking at Jesus Christ the crucified, because that’s where your hope rests. Look to Jesus and the promise that you’re going to be resurrected. Fight for your life and what you are; the key is your conviction. Are you convinced about what you believe in? Are you sure of the reason why you are working for Christ? If so, just continue to work.

3)

Contempt. On many occasions you will not receive a hug or encouragement from the people around you, but remember that the same thing happened to Jesus. When everything goes well you will be applauded by many people who are close to you, they will even cheer you on! But, when things start to go wrong, you’re in a tough situation, or you‘re out of money, you might even be blocked from their WhatsApp. Remember, our life implies walking forward constantly and struggling on because Heaven is our goal!
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Your contribution help us to continue with our mission
