Mathew 9,18-26

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 9,18-26

While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward, knelt down before him, and said, “My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live.”
Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.
A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak.
She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.”
Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, “Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.” And from that hour the woman was cured.
When Jesus arrived at the official’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,
he said, “Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they ridiculed him.
When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand, and the little girl arose.
And news of this spread throughout all that land.

God wants you alive

1) Dead: What the Gospel shows us is a man who loses his daughter. Losses are painful, especially when it’s a loved one. Those wounds pierce the depths of the heart, because not only is someone dying, but something dies in us that permeates our heart and our feelings. Imagine the blow to this man, his daughter just died, what pain he must have been going through…a widow or widower is someone who loses a husband or wife; an orphan is someone who loses their parents; but for those who lose a child…the pain is so deep, there is no name for it. Only Jesus can heal such a pain.

2) The hemorrhage: This Gospel presents us with another type of pain, it is the pain caused by disease, physical suffering that does not go away. This woman had to live with disease. How many of you listening today live with an illness? It is hard… because it is not only the pain, but also what the disease makes you feel: maybe useless or dependent on others even to move. This woman was bleeding inside and out. Again, it was Jesus who was able to heal her.

3) Courage!: In the face of these two types of pain, the Gospel culminates by presenting us with Jesus’s very presence. In the face of the greatest pains, Jesus comes to meet you and invites you to go on, to continue fighting, to not give up hope, because you only live once and life gives you second chances. There is nothing impossible for those who have faith, they might become eternal. Through love, you will achieve great things in life. If you believe a little more in God and in yourself, you will be that living presence of God, that we so desperately need. Live and help live.

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit!
And remember, Heaven is our goal!
