Matthew 15 1-2.10-14

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 15,1-2.10-14

Some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,
Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash (their) hands when they eat a meal.
He summoned the crowd and said to them, “Hear and understand.
It is not what enters one’s mouth that defiles that person; but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one.”
Then his disciples approached and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?”
He said in reply, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
Let them alone; they are blind guides (of the blind). If a blind person leads a blind person, both will fall into a pit.”

Don’t fall into a well

1) Rubricist: the Christian rubricist is that overzealous critic who follows strict rubrics or rules of religion, but forget the human person. These people can become religious policemen; looking at who does and who does Not fulfill the rubric…checking if people have their hands together in a 45 degree angle when they pray, or if they have placed their fingers in a correct position … and if not… they are rejected! They reduce their faith to a set of criteria or just to rubrics. It is very easy to fall into this, so don’t do it !

2)What comes out: today we have to take a look at our heart and analyze what is in it. There are times when we become victimizers of others and accuse them for what they do to us. But also, we should look at ourselves because we also do things to them. We must accept that we hurt other people; that we upset others’ lives. Look at yourself. Accept yourself and be reconciled.

3) Not being blind: it implies not only our own “walk” , but trusting the “walk” of others who see where they are going. There are moments when we don’t see anything and we don’t know where we are walking, that’s when we must learn to trust those who sees life more clearly. Put your trust in a spiritual guide; not necessarily a consecrated person, but a prudent, praying, and God-filled person.

God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
