Jesus and a woman

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 7,36-50

A Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him, and he entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. Now there was a sinful woman in the city who learned that he was at table in the house of the Pharisee. Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment, she stood behind him at his feet weeping and began to bathe his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and anointed them with the ointment. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said. Two people were in debt to a certain creditor; one owed five hundred days’ wages and the other owed fifty. Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both. Which of them will love him more?” Simon said in reply, “The one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven.” He said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she has bathed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
You did not give me a kiss, but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment. So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.” He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The others at table said to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” But he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Jesus forgives and consoles

1) A Pharisee invited him:
Here we see Jesus has been invited because of a social commitment. Many people ask Jesus into their life out of a sense of duty; the right thing to do; but without true appreciation. We could say that this is the attitude of many Christians who follow the rules out of duty, but not out of love. Jesus comes to them but they treat Him as just another step along the way; they want a “trade” relationship (if I do this for you, then you do this for me) with Jesus. That is not a loving relationship. We must recognize Jesus as God; Welcome Him into your heart with love; and look for a close, fraternal relationship. Accept Jesus into your life to stay forever. Enjoy Jesus!

2)A Woman who cries: Tears can express more than words. Tears can be a sign of that state of guilt and anguish that many times we find ourselves in, and we see no way out. Inside we might be repenting and looking for a change, but on the outside it’s just tears and more tears. Actions speak louder than words, and words don’t tell the whole story. By this woman’s actions, Jesus changed her life.
3) Go in peace:
Pardon and peace are two faces of the same coin. Whomever feels that they have been forgiven, experiences peace. There is no peace in the heart of someone who needs forgiveness or needs to forgive another. Jesus has the capacity to forgive you, and you have the capacity to repent. You just need to be humble. You must kneel before God so He will see your humility. Today, God reminds us that forgiveness is always available to you. God does not want for sinners to die, He wants sinners to repent and live ! To begin again; to have a fresh start: New day, New beginning !! You must demonstrate your love for God not only by complying with rules of religion, but by showing great love in everything you do. Remember God is everything and everywhere … we are nothing in comparison, but with Him we can do anything !
God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember Heaven is our goal.
