Luke 12:54-59

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Jesus said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is.
You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”

Your life depends on your discernment

1)Discernment: This is important in your life, for life involves discernment. Judging wisely and discerning take time. No one should rush you in your process of coming to a decision… that is solely up to you. Just as you become aware of aspects of your business or your everyday life, you must also come to realize what’s crucial in your life. It’s vital to learn to discern what is important in your life and what is urgent; to realize what adds value in your life and what doesn’t. Remember that deciding what is significant for your life is up to you. Those around you can enlighten you; can help you, but you are the one who decides. And if someone forces you into a certain decision, be careful! Think twice!

2) What is fair. Learn to be just in your life and with those around you. It is true that we fail and make mistakes; we all do that. Remember that any excess is bad, and it is necessary to find the right balance of things in life. You have a lot to give to society but remember that all should be done in due course; in order and harmony. Remember what it says in the book of Ecclesiastes, chapter 3: “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens… There is a time to weep, and a time to laugh…”

3. Negotiate. Learn that you can’t do everything and that you’re not always right. Slow down and learn to be humble. Keep going! God is with you!
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Don’t forget: Heaven is our goal!
