Mark 1 14-20

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 1,14-20

After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:
“This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen.
Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Then they abandoned their nets and followed him.
He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets.
Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.

Jesus came

1) Conversion: The time for Christmas is over and we begin ordinary time in the church. Today, Jesus reminds us to begin the daily struggle once again. We must keep fighting; this includes with your inner self. You must confront your darkest self to face your mistakes and defects. ACCEPT that you need to change and ASSUME responsibility for your actions. You may make mistakes; ask for forgiveness. We must continue to FIGHT on a daily basis to change, grow, and improve. This is not an easy task! You must work at it day-by-day… it’s important to continue to get better. There will be times when you mess up but you must not give up. Persistence is the key.

2) He saw: Jesus comes to look for you; He searches in everyday activities; in the simple things of life. That’s where Jesus looks for you. It is important to lead others to Jesus since we share our lives daily with them. A common mistake is made when you feel you have been chosen by God… We tend to withdraw from the ones who are closest to us. Sometimes we feel superior and we believe that, because they are sinners, we cannot get close to them; but you are a factor in the equation too. Do not feel superior to others! Jesus is the Chosen One and He wants to be a part of your daily life. Jesus did not make himself a Puritan and appear better than others… He does not have to clean his hands with alcohol gel in order to touch you. Jesus comes to us in the normal, everyday things, and encounters us to show us the supernatural. To give us dignity. -Today, you must do the same. Do not withdraw from others… respect them and give them dignity, as Jesus did.

3) Those of Zebedee: These brothers were close, like your brothers and sisters may be, but a sibling rivalry can also develop. Our family plays an important role in our daily lives because it entails the vocation of each member. This relationship accompanies and absorbs your life because family is always a part of you. The family’s role is to support your vocation, not to limit you or hold you back.

God-bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember, heaven is our goal.
