Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 5,27-32
Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post. He said to him, “Follow me.”
And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.
Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were at table with them.
The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus said to them in reply, “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”
The key is to go out and search for the lost, don’t wait.
1) Go out: This is an action verb we find in today’s gospel. Jesus goes out; He does not stay home waiting. Sometimes, we wait for others in the church instead of going out looking for them. This is like we are fishing in the fish bowl ! During lent, we must go out in search for others that need help. There are many in need of God…please do not be led by prejudice. Step outside your circle; search for others. Open yourself up to others. Leave your comfort zone and do not be afraid because people who love you will accept you as you are. Open yourself to others… they are divine gifts from God.
2) He saw: This is the second action verb we find. The ability to see others and not ignore them. Don’t act dumb like you don’t see what’s going on. Do not avoid the truth! Assume responsibility for your brother because there are many who are hurt and alone. They need help ! Remember, next time you might be the one who needs help. Never say never! Look around and focus. See who is in front of you.
3) He said, “Follow me.” Jesus does not analyze your resume; He is looking to save you. This man changed from a public sinner to a public follower. I am also a sinner who must become a public follower. You are too! As a result, we must be thankful to God because He chose us to follow Him. Follow God, but remember, that you were, and are a sinner. Do not judge others since you are not without fault ! God-bless you in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. Don’t forget, heaven is our goal !
