Matthew 9, 14-15

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?”
Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

To fast implies giving something up

1) To fast: Fasting is being in a position where something is lacking. It is not only when you give up food, but giving up other things like: watching television, using your cell phone, social media, etc. By fasting from these things you realize that you are able to live without them in your life.
2) To be attached: Lent is period of time when you realize you have created unnecessary “needs” in your life. You must let go of things that do not help you lead a simple and true life… things that hold you back.
3) Search for the bridegroom: Lent is a time to come back to God. Take all the things that aren’t of God out of your life today! Meditate on a station in the Way of the Cross, and use your time to get close to God. Today I will meditate on “Jesus falls.” God-bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember, heaven is our goal.
