Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5,38-42.
Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.
If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well.
Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles.
Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”
God gives himself.
1) Resentment: When someone hurts you because of their attitude towards you, or when someone’s words hurt you, but you don’t work on this, you becomes angry. That anger leads to a quest for revenge and your insides begin to tense up. Your life is beginning to fill with things that do not do you any good, but you seek them out in order to calm your anger. Think about if you are a person who allows revenge to dwell in you… are you vindictive? Have you ever been vindictive? If so, the key is to work on all of this because when you become a vindictive person, you already fall into a vice that is not easy to get out of. This desire for vengeance only makes it worse.
2) The tunic: This refers to giving, and what it implies giving is dialogue. Don’t stop seeking to communicate with those people who are not to your liking, or who hurt you. Often, we just want to stay away from them… But seek to listen and analyze the situation; do not decide things in a hurry. Learn to give your tunic (time) and from there seek to resolve, and then pass judgment. Remember that the thoughts in our head can betray us and we might make hasty judgements that we regret later on.
3) Walking: In this life we ofter learn important lessons from people we’d least expect them from. Accept these lessons, go along with them and the key to accepting is generosity. A generous heart is a blessed heart. Do not be afraid to go along with others; there are times that we are each in our chat or our own world, and we do not see the need of the other person. Pay attention. It is possible that when you see the great need of the other, you realize that you are “drowning” in a glass of water.
