Matthew 6, 1-6.1 6

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

‘Beware of practising your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

‘So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

‘And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

‘And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Head on

1) Being seen: Your life does not have to go through being seen or looking for positions nor positioning yourself for something. You have to do things for that which makes you happy and that God gifts to you; there are people who live to be looked at, as stars of life; a Christian cannot fall into that. Please, fight against this temptation, you have to be authentic and not be dependent on what others will say. Learn to face situations and cope with situations. Seek your peace because if you live for the gaze of others, you will never live in peace.
2) The secret: You cannot be a showoff in life, learn to play silently so that what you do can be discovered by others and not something that you publish so that everyone finds out. Today we go so far as to even publish what we are eating. No! Learn to do things in silence and only being accountable to God. There are times when it seems that we are running a political campaign because we even use the Whatsapp group to show what we are doing and how we do it. It seems all that is left for you to do is to ask them to vote for you. When you generate a certain display window of your life, the only thing you achieve is closure and isolation. There is no peace there.
3) Hypocrisy: We cannot be two-faced, we are called to live in the truth as Jesus taught us. Today we ask him to help us to be honest and authentic, the key to not falling into hypocrisy is to be remarkably sincere with yourself and with others.
May God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And always remember Heaven is our goal.
