Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10, 38-42
Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”

1)Martha is the person who is busy all the time and being so occupied is bad. Psychology talks about doing things all the time without having time for oneself. This leads us to become insecure people without roots, people who try to escape their inner selves to devote their time and effort only to the outside. Martha did not stop even for Jesus. There are people that do not change even for the sake of their children. Some people who are committed to the Church might experience an ‘over-active heresy’ . They might have the illusion of doing work for God, but it is ultimately a deformation of God. We talk about God, but we do not talk with God. We can study Theology without a real encounter with Christ and without this link, it is just pure theory.
2)Mary is the person that contemplates things, and who lives her life knowing what she is and what she needs. More importantly, she knows who she needs. The key is to take the time to be with Jesus and to listen to Him. To take time to sit down… because sometimes we even eat standing up. In Mary we see a woman who encounters Jesus and dedicates her time to Him. She looks, listens and pays attention to Him. I invite you to find time to contemplate. Today we live in a hectic world that keeps us from having a moment alone with Jesus. Look for and protect these moments alone with God.
3)Being contemplative in action. Your evangelism should be a result of your contemplation. The devil tempts us constantly through all the activities we do. Today we must slow down and contemplate in silence. We have a lot to learn from other religions like the oriental and the orthodox. They seek moments of silence and contemplation.
Find this moment to be alone with God. You will realize that the evangelism process is easier because you can attest to what you have seen and heard, and you will not be speaking as if you’re reading an established brochure.
