Luke 11, 5-13

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 11,5-13

And he said to them, ‘Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say to him, “Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; for a friend of mine has arrived, and I have nothing to set before him.” And he answers from within, “Do not bother me; the door has already been locked, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.” I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
‘So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish? Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’

Prayer opens doors

1) A friend. How great it is to be able to see God as a close friend, a Father, who provides guidelines and guides us; to see Him as one who encourages us and not to see God as a commissioner I must report to. It is being able to relate to the Lord and God fluently, in a different, joyful way. That is why the first step we must take is to start a relationship with God; knowing that He is more in me than I am in myself.

2) Plea. Knowing we are limited, there’s always something that is hard to deal with in life and that is where we must turn to prayer; being aware that God is our Father who accompanies us and illuminates every step we take. There are times when we feel defeated and fallen; it is then that we must return to prayer.

3) Trust. Remember that God loves you infinitely! He wants what is best for you. You should also seek your own good. Do not get discouraged to fight for what makes you happy; and do not stop asking for God’s help in order to achieve happiness.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And do not forget Heaven is our Goal.
