The Advent season is the time we dedicate to prepare ourselves to experience Christmas; the birth of the baby Jesus. Now, halfway through Advent, we want to share with the readers at Catholic Digital Missionaries these passages from the sacred scriptures. Scriptures that speak to us about what God wants to reveal to us.
If we look in the dictionary for the definition of the word “revelation”, it says: “it is the manifestation of a secret or hidden truths.” Many times the Word of God is difficult for us to understand, far from us, and difficult to find. But there it is… right under our noses.
Now, with only two weeks before Christmas, we must be humble and wise like the shepherds and wise men, and not miss the beautiful revelation that God became man. Our simple intention with this 5th installment of “An Appointment with God”, is to help you focus on that revelation: God became man !
When I read the 1st two passages of the ones cited here, it makes me feel as if someone has shaken me and told me that all at once, I have found out that God, the Almighty Lord, counts on me for help. He needs the help of a sinner so that many other people can hear his Word. It is not something that God suddenly thought about. As the prophet Jeremiah said: “God had us in mind before we existed.” In addition, if this choice surprises us, let us look at the verse from the Ecclesiastes that tells us that God trusts us so much that he gives us his creation, so that we can take care of it. But our Father, Almighty God, is wiser than anyone and through the voice of a neighbor helps us to avoid temptation. We are tempted to believe that we can do this on our own, but he reminds us that our mission is to spread his Word, not our ideas. That was something that was very clear even to Jesus himself.
God replied, “I am who am.” Then he added, “This is what you shall tell the Israelites: I AM sent me to you.”
Exodus 3, 14.
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.
Jeremiah 1, 5.
The spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.
2 Samuel 23, 2.
Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
Matthew 16, 17.
For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
Galatians 1, 12.
And consider the patience of our Lord as salvation, as our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, also wrote to you,
