Mark 16, 15-18

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 16, 15-18

And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.’

You must fall from the horse to see and proclaim

  1. To fall from the horse. In this event we see the beginning of Paul’s conversion. Today we celebrate his conversion, his change from being a persecutor to being persecuted. When Jesus makes His appearance, he says “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” This is telling him that when he is going after the Church he is also persecuting Christ. The fall to the ground represents people that must fall from their pride, from their plans, and their feeling of superiority. Today, God wants you to fall from the horse and remind you how hard the ground is.
  2. To see. Saul is blinded. He will be a follower of Jesus whose sight will be restored. When you fall from the horse of life, you remain blind because you are unable to see and understand what’s going on. This may often happen to you where you are hit by events in life and you are dazed, and do not know what to do or where to go. You need help regaining perspective and seeing the clear path to where you should go.
  3. To announce. This appears clearly in the Gospel. When one falls and sees life through a different perspective, you need to announce it to everyone. It is a need that comes from within, to show what God has done in our lives not only through the Bible but in our life and in the lives of others. Today, there are many people that are sitting on their high horses, perhaps including you who are listening to these audio meditations but reflect whether you can help others see that it is not the fall they should regret, but rather that they should be joyful that that they are able to see, to overcome self-righteousness and proclaim to all that Christ is alive.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Never forget that Heaven is our goal.
