Mark 4, 21-25

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 4,21-25

Jesus said to his disciples, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand?
For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light.
Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”
He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you.
To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

The excesses in life take away light.

1) Depression: It is the excess in looking back in the past. You are constantly looking back at the mistakes you made, together with guilt, wishing you had happy moments because you are not happy now. Looking back makes you lose everything, you are blind to what God has in store for you today. Please feed your life with the present and a clear objective in the future. Leave the past behind, learn from your mistakes but do not let the past rule you because this leads to excess guilt and sadness.

2) Stress: this is the excess of looking at the present. When you are conscious of the many things you have to do, 24 hours seem overwhelming because there is not enough time to get things done. When you miscalculate your time to always be busy without stopping which leads to stress. When fall into a pattern where you are always running, trying to figure out everything in your head. Problems and more problems. This destroys the light, because it removes your peace. Peace is the necessary oil that allow light to shine more strongly.

3) Anxiety: this also removes light, because it is the excess looking in the future. You become too aware of what you think might happen. This scares you if things happen not the way you planned. You begin to create different scenarios in your head that fills you with ghosts and make you live in an impossible reality. You suffer from frustration of things that do not happen as you planned. This makes you forget people and enjoy life.

Do not let these excesses take over your life. Do as Mother Theresa says “ Live your life like it was your first, last and only day”. You can be a provider of light, I assure you.
