Hey Father Rick at Ave Maria University, and the phrase repeated in the Bible more than any other is: be not afraid.
Prophets say it, angels say it, Jesus him felt himself says it a bunch of times and we need to hear it even now even in the midst of this coronavirus which could cripple us and interfere. If we let it. It’s an opponent that’s coming against us this coronavirus and so we need to take our cues from the scripture like the David and Goliath story right which is that’s just the the the model of a little guy going against some big opponent.
We’re all David right now, we’re going against this Goliath, this virus and yet look what David does right, the Philistine warrior Goliath comes out and he’s got the best armor on and he’s big he’s huge David is a little boy a little shepherd boy, he just takes five smooth stones and he refuses to go toe-to-toe with the Goliath right. He doesn’t, if you stand next to something that big, and look up you’re just gonna be terrified, you’re just gonna see muscles, and armor and weapons, and want to run away, Instead David stays at a distance and puts him in perspective, right even though the mighty is the biggest person next to a mountain is tiny next to the Earth is small next to the universe and the God who made the universe is just not that big so David doesn’t go toe-to-toe with this Philistine warrior. He stays back at a distance talks a little smack to him, you know that my God will take care of you, my God is going to destroy, who’s gonna fight this battle for me, and with this first stone, he slays Goliath down. He goes David had known and he says it, the Lord delivered me from a bear, and from a lion, when I was tending the Sheep, he’ll deliver me from this beast as well, and he had that kind of confidence, that just made him a man of prayer.
The scriptures says David spent his time as king filling the sanctuary with prayer and praise, that’s where he spent this time praising God and letting God, fight the battles for him and he also remembered the past. God had delivered him from previous animals and would deliver him from this monster as well, so with this virus, that we’re fighting and it is a big deal and it is a Goliath right now. We need to be smart but not scared, we need to take precautions, but not be paranoid, we need to do the research and try to find a cure and put energy into it, but also step back and put it in perspective.
The Lord is the Lord who fights battles for us. He’s delivered us from everything before he’ll deliver us from this again, instead we should already be praising him for the victory, that we know is coming spend our time praising. God let him fight the battles, for us may God give you peace.
