Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 22,1-14
Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and the elders of the people in parables saying,
“The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.
He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come.
A second time he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those invited: “Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast.”‘
Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.
The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Then he said to his servants, ‘The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come.
Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.’
The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests.
But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
He said to him, ‘My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?’ But he was reduced to silence.
Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’
Many are invited, but few are chosen.”
In every Mass Jesus invites you to a great party
1) Celebrate: Jesus invites you to celebrate life; the mystery of faith. Holy Mass is a feast every Sunday; it is the celebration of faith. That is why we are invited to celebrate; to share the living and broken Bread. Every Sunday Jesus tells us “Hallelujah, I am alive !”. Jesus is Life and He invites you to celebrate it. He waits for you every Sunday and proposes that after celebrating this party together, you will return to your home with Peace. That Peace that
only He gives ! He encourages you to maintain the peace during the week.
2) Excuses: many times we are like these guys from the gospel; we also make excuses for God and even put our own interests above Him. How difficult and ungrateful we are! He invites us to His party but we make excuses. It seems our priority is not Him. Instead of celebrating life with Him, we put our things first and this makes us worry more about life. When will the day come that we look at life differently? We must change…we cannot continue like this.
3) The garment: it is how we prepare our soul to go to meet Jesus in this feast that we celebrate. This celebration is the Eucharist. Putting on the “wedding garment” is preparing the heart and soul for that encounter; wearing the clothes of humility, the shoes of your nothingness, and your hairstyle of joy.
Let’s celebrate the feast of Life today. Christ lives, Christ reigns, and Christ is with us !
Remember, Heaven is our goal !
God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember to pray the rosary.
