Matthew 22 34-40

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 22,34-40

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together,
and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking,
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”
He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and the first commandment.
The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

God and your neighbor

1) Tested. There are people who constantly put us to the test, and try to control what we say and do. But look at Jesus’ actions and attitudes: He isn’t constantly paying attention to what others are going to do or say. He doesn’t play the victim, but rather, He acts naturally and normally. His life has a clear objective and His actions are not based on what others expect. He doesn’t want to look good in front of others; He doesn’t want to belittle others either. Jesus is clear on three aspects:
His identity (He knows who He is);
His authenticity (He always acts based on His principles); and His goals (He knows where His life is directed). So, if these three aspects are clear to you, you will live for yourself and for God, but not for those around you… because those people may be around today, but may have disappeared tomorrow. They might praise you today, but criticize you tomorrow. You simply must be yourself and not what others want you to be. Jesus has a clear understanding of this.

2) Love God. The Gospel reminds us of God’s presence in us and that we are in God. Your life is blessed for eternity. Never forget that: God is in you and with you! Find the time to be with Him and never stop talking to Him. Speak to God and seek Him in your own way. Look for His supernatural presence in your silence.

3) Your neighbor. It’s important to know that our neighbors, the people next to us, deserve our respect. Nowadays we live in a society that abuses other people and treats them as inferiors. No one is more or less important than anyone else; we are all equal before God and whatever the situation of my neighbors… they are my brethren and I should respect them. Don’t look down on anyone, and don’t humiliate anyone. We are all valuable to God. Be encouraged, God is by your side !
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Don’t forget: Heaven is our goal!
