Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9,7-9
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead” ;
others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
But Herod said, “John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.
Painful conscience
1) Herod: he contemplates on what he has heard about Jesus; about all that was happening. He believed John had been raised from the dead. This also happens to us, when we come across people who challenge our way of life. They make us examine our conscience and face our mistakes; just their presence can make us suffer and open up old wounds. We must accept our past mistakes, not avoid them. Face those people who make you question yourself, don’t avoid them.
2)Wounds: Old wounds live on in our hearts. There are mistakes that embarrassed us in front of others; self inflicted injuries that were as if Herod had just chopped off our heads. We must work on healing these wounds in order to start anew. Work towards restoring your dignity after all those times others have slammed you down with slander or “killed” you with criticism. Today, with the light of Christ you will heal those wounds and renew your life.
3) They say: People will always talk. Don’t torment yourself with what others say about you ; don’t worry about their comments. Listening to gossip only enslaves you; it adds anxiety. Make your own path and live in the truth. Do not fear other people’s comments, they will dampen your enthusiasm for life. A few days ago my friend asked me: “How long do you think you’re going to live ?” I said: “I estimate about 20 more years.” He told me: ” Look, life goes by fast and nobody is worried about Luis. You make your life and continue to build your own story with what you are passionate about, because if you live according to others’ opinions, time will pass you by.” Live life and don’t worry about what they will say… be restored.
