Luke 10,17-24

Luke 10 17-24

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10,17-24

The seventy-two disciples returned rejoicing and said to Jesus, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.”
Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
Behold, I have given you the power ‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”
Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

May your name be written in Heaven

1 Power. The power of an Apostle of Jesus is to help; to serve, and to make people’s lives easier. It’s helping people carry their heavy burdens. Power in the Church is service. Please do not look for worldly power in the Church, because that leads you to look at your brothers as your employees; to see the parish church as a company; or to rely on statutes instead of the Gospel. If you think that being close to the priest demonstrates that you have power you are wrong. Instead of learning humility and service, worldly power might make you try to subdue your brethren, not help them. Power given in the Church is to serve others in Jesus… not to use Jesus for an ecclesial political campaign.

2 Joy. We can rejoice in how the Church continues despite so many internal struggles. Rejoice when you see how the Holy Spirit continues to show us that He is with us… We experience joy when the Holy Spirit enters our souls – let’s ask God to guide us through His Holy Spirit. I like to study the history of the Church, especially Popes John XXIII and Paul VI. I’ve come to the conclusion that, in the harshest moments of the Church, great saints arose. There has never been a shortage of prophets of doom, but also, there’s never been a lack of saints who showed that Christ leads His Church and that the Church serves its brethren.

3 Happy. How wonderful it is when you find happiness in God; it is beautiful to see your smile! Isn’t it great to know that the Christian community wants you to be happy? I don’t want you to be a priest or a nun, and I’m not interested in your being part of a church group or movement. I just want you to be happy! The Church wants you to be happy! How? Well, that’s up to you and to God. But, have courage, Jesus is always waiting for you in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and He always reminds you in the absolution formula: “… through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace…” Today let’s seek forgiveness and peace together, because Heaven is our goal!

I’d like to invite you to pray the Rosary today. Join us for one more Rosary and invite others to pray as well.
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
