Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17,20-25
Asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come, Jesus said in reply, “The coming of the Kingdom of God cannot be observed,
and no one will announce, ‘Look, here it is,’ or, ‘There it is.’ For behold, the kingdom of God is among you.”
Then he said to his disciples, “The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.
There will be those who will say to you, ‘Look, there he is,’ (or) ‘Look, here he is.’ Do not go off, do not run in pursuit.
For just as lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be (in his day).
But first he must suffer greatly and be rejected by this generation.”
The Kingdom of God is already here
1) Evidently: Many times talking about the end of the world leads to fear because we think it will be violent, like a volcano will explode, earthquakes will shake, and lightning from the sky… How do you imagine the end of the world? Our Lord says it will be simpler that all that.
2) Christ is coming: The end of the world is when Jesus comes the second time. This means that for the Christian, there is no greater joy than to meet again… to meet Jesus himself. Meeting Jesus is the most beautiful thing for us. For centuries Christians have been praying “Come Lord Jesus !” Let us restore the Kingdom of God here on earth ! Why are you afraid?
3) Today: Meet Jesus today in the everyday; in your daily life. Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta said: “May you live the mass like it’s the last, the only and the first.” Live your life like this too. Today, I invite you to think about it like this: when meeting with your family today, live it like the it’s first, the only, and the last time you will meet. Today you have to put all your cards on the table. The Kingdom is already here. It is Jesus in you, with you and for you.
