Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 1,21-28
Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught.
The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.
In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit;
he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!”
Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!”
The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him.
All were amazed and asked one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.”
His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.
Teach with authority
1) You are a prophet: In today’s Gospel, a prophetic attitude is greatly emphasized. As a baptized person, you are called to be a prophet, to announce, and to denounce. The announcing is accompanied by the denouncing and the denouncing by the announcing. Because many are dedicated to denounce more than to announce, they become walking pessimists. There are those who announce without denouncing, for fear of looking bad. You are called to announce and live in truth.
2) Impure Spirit: Tis spirited tormented the man. Today, many people may be tormented: I’ll show you some common torments:
a) Economic torment: When anxiety follows you: not knowing if you’ll make it to the end of the month. When you wonder if you should get a loan, because the credit card has maxed out. When you owe money to people that depend on you.
b) Physical torment: When you live with a sickness that limits what you can do… that torment of wanting to do things, and not being able to do them. The torment of always depending on someone else.
c) Psychological torment: This is the torment of the imagination; when your thoughts don’t allow you peace; constantly thinking about the future or living in the past.
d) Spiritual torment: When you can’t find God, and when you feel that God is no longer there for you.
3) Authority: Jesus’ authority is a combination of His healing and His teaching. He is committed to everyone and gives them dignity. Respect, and you will be respected. Respecting others is the key to gaining authority.
Today, as Christians, let’s learn how to respect each other and do not let the torments of life control you. God sets you free.
God-bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember, heaven is our goal !
