Jesus said to his disciples, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand?
For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light.
Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”
He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you.
To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
Excesses Take Away the Light
1) Depression: it is the excess of looking at the past. You are constantly looking at either the mistakes you have made and the corresponding guilt, or those beautiful moments that you would like to have, and today you cry because you can’t have them. This situation leads you to lose the ability to shine in front of others. Spending too much time looking into the past causes you to lose everything you could accomplish in your life today and the work that God has prepared for you. Don’t stop feeding your life with the present and that goal for the future. Instead, learn that the past is past and feeds the experience of your life, but don’t let your life rotate in the past, blaming yourself or letting yourself fall into eternal melancholy.
2) Stress: it is the excessive looking at the present, when you are constantly looking at what you have to do, how to fit one hundred fifty thousand things into 24 hours. It’s when your time to be is distorted by constant doing. You even live for others giving and giving of yourself without stopping leading you to burn out. You fall into that acceleration where you no longer walk during the day, but instead you run all day; thinking about things and things, problems and problems. This destroys your light because it takes away your peace, and peace is like the oil of a candle that allows your light to shine more strongly.
3) Anxiety: this also takes away your light because it is an excess towards the future. Your gaze is constantly on what will happen. Fear takes you because you do not know if things will go as planned; you start to fill your head with ghosts and the only thing you achieve is that you do not live in reality and you suffer about things that have not happened yet. And you do not know if they will even happen. This makes you forget about the people who love you and makes you forget to enjoy life.
Don’t let these three excesses take over your life. Do like Mother Theresa used to say, “I will live my life as if it is my first day, my last day and my only day.” Today you can give a lot of light, I assure you. You can give a lot of light but you need to learn to not exceed yourself in the past, the present or the future. Be yourself and value each day.
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
And don’t forget: Heaven is our goal!
