Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 4,35-41
On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples: “Let us cross to the other side.”
Leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat just as he was. And other boats were with him.
A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up.
Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was great calm.
Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”
They were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?”
CROSS TO THE OTHER SHORE
1) Let’s cross to the other side: In the mission of daily life, you and I are called to go further; to be next to the one who needs us. We are shepherds of the sheep and we cannot be exclusive, only helping a certain sheep. You have to cross over; go to the others; don’t wait for them.
2) A strong gale was unleashed: In order to cross to the other shore; to go to the others; the mission involves taking risks. The risk of losing stability, and of drowning. Evangelization also implies risks because it can drown you and even sink you. It must be recognized that many who evangelize have drowned. Crossing shores can bring crisis…even thinking that God is not listening; that He’s asleep. Therefore, the daily missionary must be brave and prudent, but not fearful.
3) The calm came: We question God and He acts. God squeezes tight, but does not choke you because God also invites you to have faith. Christian life is a constant struggle of faith; you must overcome your crisis of faith and just trust. In the course of your life, God will give you signs, and time will remind you, if you look back, that His hand has been with you. Go ahead and cross to the other shore, even if the water enters your life threatening to drown you. If you trust and have faith, nothing will happen to you. Encourage others to accept the challenge of crossing, because those who do not take risk, do not win. Do you know this? : Jesus is the Emmanuel…God with us!
God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Heaven is our goal !
