Matthew 5,20-26

Matthew 5-20-26

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5,20-26

Jesus said to his disciples:  “I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.
You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, ‘You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.’
But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, ‘Raqa,’ will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ will be liable to fiery Gehenna.
Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you,
leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison.
Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”

Your life must be fair

1) Your justice: You and I must have a different justice than the scribes. That is, do not act from anger or “with your gut” when there is something that hurts you or bothers you. If you act on the spot, it is very possible that you think you are being fair, but that is when you react emotionally and with passion…. logic and sense is left out. That is why it is very possible that later you regret what you said, or realize that you lost your temper. Learn to wait, act calmly, and you will react fairly from reason and logic. When you allow yourself to act in anger, it can grow into a rage. If I gave you a sword, surely you will kill that person who did something to you… but it is possible that you will also harm the one who is closest , just because they are near.. When you get angry, you get really angry! In the act, you will justify all your actions, but, when you calm down, you will realize you committed murder ; you will see the line of wounded, and dead you left in your path. Most of the time your deadly weapon, instead of being your sword, is your tongue. Words hurt !

2) Patience: As the song “Calm” would say, “let time act”. Faced with a situation that makes you angry, the first thing you have to do is calm down. Do not act at the moment; learn to listen and look at all sides. Of course you have to do justice, but act and speak from objectivity and the truth. All extremes are bad. It is never good to act in haste to instantly terminate the other, nor is it right to bring it up again two years later when the culprits are gone. Learn to control yourself; discover the moment that corresponds to your actions and words.

3) Reconcile: It is a difficult subject. Getting irritated can lead to illness. What is being proposed here is your attitude towards life. Do not let anyone kill your dreams. Don’t allow someone to make you be what you are not…. much less bring out the worst in you. Seek reconciliation. Resume the relationship. Do not start fighting and create a battalion of enemies in a short time. During this Lent, take advantage of learning to be more receptive; more diplomatic. Look for solutions to things and maintain the spirit of dialogue. Of course, if nothing is achieved and the situation is a toxic relationship, see it for what it is. If it’s a vicious circle of fighting and injuries, then the best thing is not to declare war, but rather to pray and take a step back… distance yourself from the situation. Remember, we only have one life, and if you start fighting with those around you, you will spend all your strength there. Then, when the battle ends, (if it ends) your life will have passed you by. That’s when you will finally understand that it was better to move on. Take care of your prayer life; take care of your life, and take care of your relationships with those people who do you good, and help you to encounter God.

God-bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Don’t forget heaven is our goal !
