Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 44-51.
Jesus said, ‘No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Very truly, I tell you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.’
The way to God.
1) If it doesn’t appeal to you: Christianity is a vocation and it also implies a conviction. Today we have an internal struggle: the situation that Christianity is often viewed as a tradition or folklore, and not a conviction. This has led to the fact that the main concern for baptism is the party room and not the baptism itself. The same goes for weddings; they focus on the party and Wow! What an expense ! The list goes on: communions and confirmations, etc… we are celebrating the things of Christ, but not Jesus Christ… it’s as if the birthday boy’s party overshadows the birthday boy himself. Today I have to assume that there are things that we have failed to do as Christians. We did not know how to convey the conviction of a living Christ; teach others that Christ is alive and he fills this life. Today I must work on my Christian convictions and on my Christian formation. Learn more about Christ, since no one can love what they do not know.
2) Eternal life: Hope is what moves us, because we have a common mission: to ensure that everyone goes to heaven and make others happy. Our job is to guide them. We do not have the mission to condemn, much less judge… we are men and women who want to live eternally in Life.
3) The Eucharist: This is it! The bread of life; this is the bread of the angels. Every mass that I attend reminds me that there is a heaven; that there is an eternity. The Eucharist is that encounter with Jesus. The Eucharist is life and gives us life. The Eucharist is Christian life.
God-bless you in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember, heaven is our goal !
