Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 60 – 69.
When many of his disciples heard it, they said, ‘This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?’ But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, ‘Does this offend you? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But among you there are some who do not believe.’ For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him. And he said, ‘For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father.’
Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. So Jesus asked the twelve, ‘Do you also wish to go away?’ Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’
You give eternal life.
1) It’s hard: I must admit that we, as a church, have become more “light” or “loose” in some things. When I read about the history of the Church, I see that in the beginning, the confessions were public and it was once in a lifetime. I say: “mamma mia”, thank goodness that I did not live during that time! This was until the eleventh century, but in truth, those who choose to follow Jesus have made a decision for life. It is a life-long commitment. After this pandemic, we will go out to the world, and there we will have to protect this little fire that has been lit in our hearts during the quarantine period. Take Jesus with you! Whenever I get sad I remember the words to this song that say: “Christ is with me, the Lord goes with me, he always accompanies me, in my life until the end …” Remember, God is always with you ! When you get discouraged, remember these words of the song like I do.
2) The Spirit: This is what moves us and fills us. Today we ask the Holy Spirit that we do not get tired, we ask for the strength to continue, and also to help relieve many souls. Today, people need you. Together, you and I can help a lot of people. We can accompany and console this battered society.
3) Come to me: Strength is given to us by God and only with Him can we do anything and everything. We are simple servants. Let us ask God to fill us with his Love and his Peace so that with a full heart, we can move this world.
