Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 15,26-27.16,1-4a.
Jesus said to his disciples: “When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.
And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.
I have told you this so that you may not fall away.
They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.
They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.
I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you.”
Do not be scandalized.
1) Will bear witness to me: voluntarism is something that hurt the Church a lot some time ago. The notion of getting to Heaven by your own means. Until it was demonstrated that it is not your voluntarism that permits you to get to Heaven but rather it is 50 and 50%. It’s you and God and you with God.
2) From the beginning: we have started a new week. We are going to keep moving forward because we do not let ourselves get discouraged by mistakes and setbacks. We fight to the end because we want a better world. We bear witness when we march to martyrdom, we bear witness when we go to war to bring peace. But we also give testimony when we pick up garbage off the floor, when we give an elderly or pregnant person a seat on the bus, when we respect the line and a traffic light that is red… in short, our testimony does not have to involve extraordinary things only, but can also be about simple every day actions. We can also encounter God in simple and every day events.
3) Do not be scandalized: how many things have we had to go through but we continued walking for more than 2000 years and we continue, we have gone through so many things and we continue. People were killed in the beginnings of Christianity, we were forbidden to preach, they wanted to use the Church to gain power, we could not carry the cross, they ridiculed us, they downplayed us for our mistakes … we have so many currents against us but we continue. You know why? Because we are not the ones in charge, God is the one in charge of the Church. If we who are inside have not destroyed the Church, those who are outside will be much less likely to do so.
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And never forget Heaven is our goal.
