Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 16,29-33.
The disciples said to Jesus, “Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.
Now we realize that you know everything and that you do not need to have anyone question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God.”
Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”
I have conquered the world
1) Coming from God. There are times when you and I put ourselves in the same position as the apostles, when we want to ask Jesus for explanations about everything. Not even Jesus is spared of our arrogant and controlling attitude. I believe that the world is full of opinionators, who only seek to give their opinion from the balcony but do not do any of the actual work. I call them Christian reporters because they are like soccer commentators. They watch the game from above, comment, criticize, but none of the players listen to them. That’s what many of us are like, we criticize and judge the lives of others, but the person who is playing the game, who is putting himself or herself out on the line is the one who is least aware of our opinions.
2) You will be scattered. This is one of the great temptations that we have in the Church, to scatter and keep our distance from what we think is not our responsibility. Each one wants to work on his own project. This should not be so… we are called to unity, not to be scattered working on what we think is best. We have to know that when we come together, wonders can be achieved. Think, for example, of the three musketeers. When they were united, they were invincible. So come on, D’Artagnan, don’t run away from reality and face it, because we won’t leave you alone.
3) Courage. How wonderful to know and remember that God has conquered the world and that with Him we can do anything! God is God and we are not. Today remember this phrase: “I have conquered the world.” You can overcome whatever comes, because you are not alone and we will accompany you.
May God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And always remember Heaven is our goal.
