Mark 10, 46-52

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
Mark 10, 46-52

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 10, 46-52

As Jesus left Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting at the side of the road. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout and cry out: Son of David, have pity on me! And many of them scolded him and told him to keep quiet, but he only shouted all the louder: Son of David, have pity on me! Jesus stopped and said: Call him here. So they called the blind man over: Courage, they said, get up. He is calling you. So throwing off his cloak, he jumped up and went to Jesus. Then Jesus spoke: What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to him, Rabbuni, let me see again. Jesus said to him: Go, your faith has saved you. And at once his sight returned and he followed him along the road.

Get up He’s calling you.

1) On the way: Jesus is a traveler. He does not stay still. He goes to Jericho; a place where people are believers but difficult and closed minded. Today, we have many closed “Jericho” people around us; maybe it’s your Mom, Dad, brother, friend… and we must go towards them, announce to them, and be with those Jericho who need to hear about the love of God. We can announce to them that there is an abundant and eternal life. You and I have to be the walkers of life; always moving; we cannot be static. We must go on. We cannot stop, because there are people who need us.

2) The blind man: We see a man excluded from society, estranged; even distanced from God. They do not let him call out, or express himself. Today we have many like Bartimaeus who, apart from not being able to see, are excluded… and you and I are also guilty of this exclusion. How many times are we like those people who say “look who came to church !” or “who does he think he is?” or “mmm this is the good guy”.? How far do we distance ourselves from God? Even when they seek Him. Today, don’t give up, there are brothers who are on the edge of the road and they don’t find a meaning to life. We should not leave them off to the side.

3) Get up: Today Jesus wants to work in you, and through you, so that you can see! He wants you to understand life and how you make the journey. Allow your faith to be that encouragement you need to keep you fighting and keep you going, despite everything. Don’t be afraid to go on and fight because Jesus wants you to get up and have courage, even when we are beaten down and tired. Remember that you can’t give up. You have to see and keep walking.
God-bless you in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember heaven is our goal.
