Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 2, 41-51
Now every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Assuming that he was in the group of travellers, they went a day’s journey. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in great anxiety.” He said to them, “Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he said to them. Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human favour.
The parents of Jesus.
1) The faith transmitted: It is lovely to see this attitude of the parents of Jesus: transmitting the faith to their son. How many of us had the faith transmitted to us from the cradle? Are you a “cradle Catholic” ? Did you have a mother who put her child to bed and together they prayed to their guardian angel? Did you grow up watching your dad praying for his work, or blessing the table, and seeing that you all went to mass as a family or prayed together? These are those works of faith that move mountains! A living faith that feeds and continues to expand. Surely you have experienced it. Ask yourself: who transmitted the faith to you? Who filled you with God’s grace and mercy ?
2) Search for Jesus: The search must be constant because when you least realize it, you can walk through life without Jesus. Often this accelerated life that we lead occupies us so that there are times that we do not have time to pray, or talk with God. The search for Jesus needs to be constant, whether through a song, a reading, or the gospel itself. Look for that which helps you find Jesus.
3) Mary: She is an important pillar in our lives; Mary leads us to Jesus and she has us in her heart because we are her children. Her motherly love also fills your heart, and her great desire is to bring you to Jesus; the Love of her life. If you are afraid, ask her to take you to Jesus; if you don’t feel like anything, ask her to take you to Jesus. Yes, she leads you to Jesus, and with Mary it’s easier to find Him.
With Mary, we won’t stop until we get to heaven!
God-bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember heaven is our goal !
