Holy Gospel of the Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 6, 7-13
Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two
and gave them authority over unclean spirits.
He instructed them to take nothing for the journey
but a walking stick—
no food, no sack, no money in their belts.
They were, however, to wear sandals
but not a second tunic.
He said to them,
“Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave.
Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you,
leave there and shake the dust off your feet
in testimony against them.”
So they went off and preached repentance.
The Twelve drove out many demons,
and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
He sent them
1) He sent them. Jesus gives us the message that we are a missionary church. We are not a museum or a stagnant Church. We are a dynamic Church who seeks others; takes risks, and is always looking for the people that are in need of God. You and I are this Church. Remember we have to fulfill the mandate of being a church that goes forth and that adapts, rather than stay still.
2) In pairs: Jesus sends us to evangelize our community in pairs, because individualism is selfish and cannot exist in the vision of the gospel. It is mandated that the job be done in pairs because it is necessary to testify that there are two axes in Christian life, the love for God and the love for mankind. This is the reason we must often fight against individualism, because it is hard to work with one another, to see a united front. Today, God invites you to go out to evangelize together with another person.
3) Preach: We have to announce the love of God. To let everyone know that God loves us and that He died on the cross for us. He gave us his Mother to love us as well. Preach that we must change our lives and there is always a chance for us. Preach that God never leaves us on our own and is always on our side. Preach that Heaven exists and until we reach Heaven we will continue to work.
