Luke 1,57-66

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 1,57-66

Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. Her neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him Zechariah after his father. But his mother said, “No; he is to be called John.” They said to her, “None of your relatives has this name.” Then they began motioning to his father to find out what name he wanted to give him. He asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And all of them were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God. Fear came over all their neighbours, and all these things were talked about throughout the entire hill country of Judea. All who heard them pondered them and said, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.

Time has come

1) We are happy for her. We observe how a joyful community because God has worked wonders. As a community, we must be happy for the work of God in us and in others; rivalry and competition should live within us. There is nothing sadder in a community than seeing brothers fighting for money, jobs or recognition. Today we must make that purification that allows us to rejoice to see the progress in the life of our brother, are you envious? Don´t be.

2) The name. It is something important and that is why in the celebration of a baptism we take a moment to ask the name. It is what gives you an identity and shows everyone that who you are, someone thought of and dreamed of. You are God’s child and that makes you unique. Look within recognize yourself as a person and accept what you have and what you are.

3) Praise God. How wonderful it is to praise God when one sees His Hand and how He acts. Since we are good at asking God´s help, it is also important to praise constantly. God is always extremely generous.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
And remember Heaven is our goal!
