Holy Gospel of Jesus according to Saint Luke 1,67-79
Zechariah his father, filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied, saying:
“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
for he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hand of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Prepare the way
1) Prepare: this is the word that we are going to talk about. The gospel shows us a Zacharias full of the Holy Spirit that tells us that through our Baptism we are prophets, and we are called upon to prepare the way. Today you are being called upon to prepare your house not only for the celebration and family meal, but especially to find the peace that comes from God. Ask for forgiveness and peace. Tonight, can be a night for reconciliation and to face our truths again, a night to help others, to be happy. Prepare to be joyful tonight.
2) Illuminate. Give light to those who live in shadow, who live far from God or are confused. Show your love for God. Put baby Jesus in the center of your table so that you can experience a spiritual night. Be the light with a smile, a hug, a word of consolation if needed.
3) Guide. Guide others to find peace. Look for peace in your heart. Avoid silly arguments, walk in the light of peace and be a guide for others. Prepare, illuminate and guide are the three objectives for your celebration. Say to yourself God did not forget about me and I have not forgotten God. Merry Christmas!
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And remember, Heaven is our goal!
