Luke 2, 36-40

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 2, 36-40

There was also a prophet, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshipped there with fasting and prayer night and day. At that moment she came, and began to praise God and to speak about the child to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. When they had finished everything required by the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favour of God was upon him.

1) She did leave the temple even in her old age, she was 84. Anna is a woman that is immersed in prayer and contemplation. The gospel wants to teach us her way of life: a life that has reached maturity and walks hand in hand with God. Place your life in God and act toward others from His perspective.

2) To be thankful. Every day we must thank God for what we have lived, what we have battled and what we have faced. Is there a need to give thanks? Yes, of course, you and I must always be thankful. Today, please think of five things you are thankful for this year.

3) To grow. We cannot remain stagnant. We must keep growing, fight for our beliefs and walking along the path of life. Let’s pray to God to give us strength to be men and women that grow and fortify the community through this religious maturity.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Always remember Heaven is our Goal.
