Mark 7, 24-30

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 7, 24-30

From there Jesus set out and went away to the region of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know he was there. Yet he could not escape notice, but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet. Now the woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. He said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” But she answered him, “Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Then he said to her, “For saying that, you may go–the demon has left your daughter.” So she went home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

A mother’s faith is miraculous

1) A mother. I often think of mothers like yours or mine, how much they have prayed to God for you and me. A mother worries about her child and feels despair when she sees her child troubled, without God and without light. The woman is not religious, but when she sees her child like this, she seeks Jesus for help. How many mothers appeal to Jesus on behalf of her children! Today, may you be God’s answer to your Mother.

2) The request. The key is this: beg and ask God for grace and the precise moment. Do not break down, rather ask and ask again and again. The woman does not give up and fights for her request. Pray and pray and don’t get tired of praying. God is always willing. God does not get tired of listening to you.

3) Free yourself from the devil. One of the main characteristics of the devil is falsehood. Be upright and honest, and do not allow yourself to be possessed by emptiness, the lack of God and falsehood. Be firm and clear. God is with you.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Always remember, Heaven is our goal.
