Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 8,22-26
When Jesus and his disciples arrived at Bethsaida, people brought to him a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. Putting spittle on his eyes he laid his hands on him and asked, “Do you see anything?”
Looking up he replied, “I see people looking like trees and walking.”
Then he laid hands on his eyes a second time and he saw clearly; his sight was restored and he could see everything distinctly.
Then he sent him home and said, “Do not even go into the village.”
To see
1) Blind. In today’s gospel, we see a blind person, but he is not blind from birth. We know this, because he says, ‘he saw people looking like trees’ which means that he once saw them. Maybe today you can realize that in the path of life you can progressively go blind, because you stop seeing the reality around you or you lose the precision to see it as it is, or even worse, you do not want to see reality.
2) Saliva. God uses signs, sensitive signs that we need to feel and experience. Ask Jesus to cure you of that affective blindness which does not allow you to see reality because you are dominated by affection, or to cure you of that psychological blindness in which you do not want to see reality because you do not accept that it is what it is. Today, ask Jesus to cure you of the spiritual blindness of not seeing God as He is, but rather as you please, taking out and putting in whatever you want.
3) Do not enter. Jesus warns the man not to enter the village in order to prevent any conflict.
There are times when it is not convenient to get into things that end up blinding you, such as gambling or drinking. In short, you know what can blind you, even friendships or emotional relationships that end up destroying you. Today, we ask Jesus to heal us, because once we have seen but have been blinded. Look for that which blinded you so that you will not fall again.
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And remember, Heaven is our goal.
