John 14, 6-14

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 14, 6-14

Jesus said to Thomas, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to him,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”

Knowing the Father

1) Knowing. The word religion comes from the latin word ligare: to join, to bind or link, classically understood to mean the linking of human and divine. Religion is a means to know God, to reconnect to the presence of God and to experience Him. The knowledge of God is not merely an intellectual knowledge and does not come by reading a manual. The knowledge of God involves your whole being. Today, God proposes that you should grow at His side, to know Him in a living and intimate way.

2) Works. Christian life, the life of the one who knows Jesus, involves concrete action. You cannot be a Christian only on Sundays from 10 to 11, when you go to mass. You must always be a Christian and always give an example with your life. I know it is difficult, even I find it hard because it is not easy to be coherent with what we say. That is why it is a grace and a gift from God.

3) It’s God who does. We are simple instruments, and it is God who works and moves us towards an eternal path. He invites you to live and to strive every day for what you love and what inspires you. Live with God, by God and for God.

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And never forget that Heaven is our goal
