John 15, 26, 16, 4a

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel according to Saint John 15, 26, 16, 4a

Jesus said to his disciples:
“When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father,
he will testify to me.
And you also testify,
because you have been with me from the beginning.

“I have told you this so that you may not fall away.
They will expel you from the synagogues;
in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you
will think he is offering worship to God.
They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.
I have told you this so that when their hour comes
you may remember that I told you.”

The truth

1) The spirit.  It is the strength of the Holy Spirit that moves you and motivates you. What differentiates this from psychological therapy is that these words have the power of the Holy Spirit. When you open your soul to God, it fills with the Holy Spirit that leads you to be a more creative, dynamic, and authentic person.

CREATIVE, because it leads you to enjoy what you do, to enjoy living and allows you to give your own personal touch to your life, your work and your family. Let yourself be taken by the Holy Spirit in the moment of your prayer so as to be creative in life and not bored of it.

DYNAMIC. When you enjoy living and have a sense of what to live for, no day is the same in your life since your outlook is different every day. That is why a good point to discern whether you are finding meaning in your life, is to see if you are not falling into a suffocating routine. Routine and structuralism kill your life, making you fall into monotony. Is your life dull today?

AUTHENTIC means that you lead a prayerful life and talk to God in a simple, close way. This leads you to feel free and provides you with that freshness of living in the presence of God that leads you to be more fully yourself. This authenticity makes you invincible since you will not care what others say or think about you. The presence of God fills your soul thoroughly and makes you lead a more plentiful life.

2) Don’t be shocked. A thinker of the last century said that the Christian of the 21st century should be a mystic. When I think about it, I agree with him. Today´s Christian is called upon to be a mystic rather than a Catholic of folkloric tradition or a family tradition. Our faith comes from a close encounter with God, a relationship so intimate and great that it makes the person able to face the greatest temptations. As another great thinker said, “In the XXI century there may not be full churches, but there will be people filled with the Spirit”.

3) To know. Knowing God is a personal and unique experience. That means that the experience is not the same for everyone, because it comes from a face-to-face relationship with God, which leads you to accept a style of living and take responsibility for your actions. Today, let’s pray to God so He may help us to nurture our soul and discover Him.

May God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Always remember that Heaven is our goal!
