Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 16, 29-33
The disciples said to Jesus,
“Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.
Now we realize that you know everything
and that you do not need to have anyone question you.
Because of this we believe that you came from God.”
Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home
and you will leave me alone.
But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.
In the world you will have trouble,
but take courage, I have conquered the world.”
I am not alone
1) Attention to the person. Today, I want to propose a process of discernment. God invites you to look at your brother or sister, to listen and pay attention to what they are expressing. I invite you to listen to others, to those close to you, leave your cell phone to one side for a while and really listen. Listen to the person who opens their heart to tell you something important about their life, the obstacles or miseries they have faced, and do not judge what they tell you or what they say, but accompany them and truly listen. Pray to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to enlighten you, so that you may listen carefully, not judge, and be good company. Lend a helping hand. As Christians, our attitude should reflect God’s compassion. Beyond the idea or choice of life the other person has made, try to make them feel valued and not ignored.
2) Look for the truth. Both for yourself and when helping others, we must seek the truth. Sometime we like to fool ourselves in order not to dig deeper within us and see what is really happening. Have the honesty to speak the truth. Turning over and over a problem is not solving it. Sometimes we even prefer to remain silent and not deal with difficult situations that are hurting us. If you get the chance to accompany a brother or sister, help them deal with the heart of the matter and dig deep to find where they are weak or might need help. If this happens to you, do not ignore it, face it and if you cannot do so on your own, ask for help. But the most important thing is to recognize and accept the responsibility of your life.
3) Moving forward. Once you have listened and paid attention to your brother or sister, once you have dealt with the heart of the matter, you must think where you are going and what you want to accomplish in life. Analyze what you are doing and why you are doing it. Look for the greater purpose in life, more than the tiny details or what you like or not. If you lose your way, the blows that you will receive will weaken you and you will not be able to get up. To be clear, we all trip and fall while walking along the path of life, except for Mary and Jesus. The most important thing is to get up again, look at our objective, and try once more to reach the happiness we all deserve. To listen, pay attention to others, help focus on the main issues with honesty, and get back on track to the objective again. These aspects will help you lead a plentiful life.
May God bless you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Always remember, Heaven is our goal.
