Holy Gospel according to Saint John 6, 22-29
[After Jesus had fed the five thousand men, his disciples saw him walking on the sea.]
The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea
saw that there had been only one boat there,
and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat,
but only his disciples had left.
Other boats came from Tiberias
near the place where they had eaten the bread
when the Lord gave thanks.
When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there,
they themselves got into boats
and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
And when they found him across the sea they said to him,
“Rabbi, when did you get here?”
Jesus answered them and said,
“Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me
not because you saw signs
but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
Do not work for food that perishes
but for the food that endures for eternal life,
which the Son of Man will give you.
For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”
So they said to him,
“What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”
Jesus answered and said to them,
“This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”
The miracle is that you are alive
1) The work of God. If you become aware of everything there is around you, you will see miracles everywhere. There is a video featuring Tony Melendez who shows us that without arms, he met with Pope John Paul II and played his guitar with his feet. Do you realize what he was able to do and the wonderful music he produced? His willingness and vision were spiritual, supernatural. He mentions the fact that seeing people with arms, he believes that is also a miracle, for he was born without them.
2) You are a miracle. Jesus has done and is doing many things for you and through you. You must become aware of all the work Jesus does. Do not fear, God is holding your hand and you must discover how he is impacting your life without you realizing it. You are a key player also in other people’s lives. Please understand this.
3) Following Jesus. The true following of Jesus is not a business transaction of ‘you give-I give you’ sort of kind. True discipleship means unconditional love, a love without any further interest. The following of Jesus comes through discovering him. Jesus makes us fall in love with life and leads us to see life as a miracle.
God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Always remember that Heaven is our goal!
